Retraction, Correction, and Withdrawal Policy

The Journal of Islamic Humanities and Social Inquiry (JIHSI) is committed to maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity and the accuracy of the scholarly record. In accordance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), JIHSI has established clear protocols for correcting, retracting, or withdrawing articles to ensure transparency and accountability.

Corrections (Errata and Corrigenda)
JIHSI recognizes that honest errors may occur in published research. We distinguish between two types of corrections:
•    Errata: Significant errors made by the journal during the production process that affect the scientific integrity or the author's reputation.
•    Corrigenda: Significant errors made by the authors that do not invalidate the research findings but require clarification (e.g., an error in a data table or a missed citation).
•    Procedure: A formal "Correction" notice will be published in the next available issue, linked electronically to the original article to ensure that readers are aware of the update while preserving the original version of the manuscript.

Retractions
Retractions are reserved for serious cases where the findings or conclusions of a published article are unreliable, or where ethical violations have occurred.
•    Criteria for Retraction: Following COPE standards, JIHSI will issue a retraction if:
o    There is clear evidence that the findings are unreliable, either as a result of major honest error or scientific misconduct (e.g., data fabrication).
o    The article constitutes plagiarism or redundant publication.
o    The research involves unethical conduct or undisclosed conflicts of interest that invalidate the study.
•    Procedure: A "Retraction Notice" will be issued, clearly stating who is retracting the article and the reasons for the retraction. The original article will be marked as "RETRACTED" in the PDF and metadata, but will remain available to maintain the transparency of the scholarly record.

Article Withdrawal
Withdrawal refers to the removal of a manuscript before it is officially published.
•    Author-Initiated Withdrawal: Authors may request to withdraw their manuscript during the peer-review process. However, JIHSI discourages withdrawal once the review process is advanced to prevent "journal shopping" and the waste of reviewers' time.
•    Editor-Initiated Withdrawal: The Editor-in-Chief may withdraw a manuscript if it is found to violate ethical guidelines (such as simultaneous submission to another journal) during the editorial process.
•    Fees: As per JIHSI policy, if a manuscript is withdrawn after the review process has significantly commenced, the journal may impose a withdrawal fee to cover administrative and editorial costs.

Expressions of Concern
In rare cases where an investigation into alleged misconduct is ongoing but a definitive conclusion has not yet been reached, JIHSI may publish an "Expression of Concern." This alerts the academic community to potential issues with the data or findings while the investigation follows the COPE flowcharts.
