Archiving Policy & Digital Preservation

The Journal of Islamic Humanities and Social Inquiry (JIHSI) is committed to the long-term preservation of its scholarly content to ensure that research remains accessible to the global academic community even in the event that the journal ceases publication or the platform experiences technical failure. Our preservation strategy follows the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing.

Digital Preservation Systems
JIHSI utilizes established digital preservation networks to ensure a permanent archive of its publications.
•    LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe): The journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries, allowing those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration.
•    CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe): JIHSI participates in the CLOCKSS system to provide a secure and sustainable archive for its academic record.
•    PKP Preservation Network (PN): As an OJS-based journal, JIHSI is integrated with the PKP PN, which provides free preservation services for any OJS journal that meets the basic criteria, ensuring our content is digitally archived across a global network of servers.

Self-Archiving Policy
In alignment with our CC BY 4.0 license, JIHSI supports the rights of authors to self-archive their work. Authors are permitted and encouraged to:
•    Deposit the Version of Record (the final published PDF) in their institutional repositories or subject-specific archives immediately upon publication.
•    Share the published version on personal websites or academic social networks (e.g., ResearchGate, Academia.edu).
•    Ensure that any self-archived version includes a full bibliographic citation and a link to the original publication via its DOI.

Persistent Identifiers
To maintain the integrity of the scholarly record, every article published in JIHSI is assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) through Crossref. The DOI serves as a persistent link to the version of record, ensuring that citations remain functional even if the journal's web domain changes.

Metadata Archiving
JIHSI utilizes the OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting) to ensure that article metadata (titles, abstracts, keywords, and citations) can be harvested by international aggregators and library systems. This ensures that even if the primary website is unavailable, the record of the research remains discoverable in global databases.
