Author Guidelines

The Journal of Islamic Humanities and Social Inquiry (JIHSI) invites scholars, researchers, and practitioners to submit original research that contributes to the interdisciplinary study of Islam as a religious, intellectual, social, and cultural phenomenon. JIHSI is committed to the free exchange of knowledge and provides immediate open access to its content under the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) 4.0 license.

General Submission Principles
•    Originality: All submissions must be entirely original works that have not been previously published and are not currently under consideration by any other journal.
•    Interdisciplinary Focus: Manuscripts should engage with the diverse experiences of Muslims and Islamic thought through critical inquiry, integrating humanities and social science perspectives.
•    Language: JIHSI accepts manuscripts written in English or Bahasa Indonesia. However, authors are encouraged to provide high-quality English abstracts and keywords to ensure global discoverability.

Types of Submissions
JIHSI accepts several types of scholarly contributions, including but not limited to:
•    Research Articles: Original empirical or theoretical research providing new insights into Islamic humanities or social inquiry (approx. 6,000–8,000 words).
•    Conceptual or Theoretical Essays: Critical engagements with existing theories or the proposal of new conceptual frameworks within Islamic studies (approx. 5,000–7,000 words).
•    Critical Book Reviews: In-depth evaluations of recently published significant works in the field (approx. 1,500–2,000 words).
•    Field Reports and Case Studies: Descriptive and analytical accounts of specific fieldwork or localized social inquiries within Muslim societies (approx. 4,000–6,000 words).

Preparation Overview
•    Citation Style: Authors must strictly follow the APA (American Psychological Association) 7th Edition style for both in-text citations and the reference list.
•    Anonymization: To facilitate the Double-Blind Peer Review process, authors must remove all identifying information from the manuscript file, including names, affiliations, and self-references in the text or bibliography.
•    Ethical Compliance: Submissions involving human subjects (e.g., interviews, ethnography) must include a statement confirming that ethical approval was obtained and that participants provided informed consent.

Submission Process
All manuscripts must be submitted online through the JIHSI OJS platform. Authors are required to register and log in to initiate the submission process, where they will be guided through the Submission Preparation Checklist to ensure all required components (e.g., Abstract, Keywords, Reference List) are included.
