Focus and Scope

The Journal of Islamic Humanities and Social Inquiry (JIHSI) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal that provides a specialized academic platform for interdisciplinary research on Islam and Muslim societies. Our primary focus is to bridge the gap between traditional humanities and modern social science perspectives, fostering a deeper understanding of Islam as a religious, intellectual, social, and cultural phenomenon.

Core Objectives
JIHSI aims to promote critical, original, and contextual scholarship that reflects the diverse experiences, expressions, and intellectual currents of Islam across both time and space. The journal encourages studies that engage with:
•    The internal dynamics of Muslim communities.
•    The interactions between Islam, Muslim societies, and other religious or cultural traditions.
•    The relationship between Islamic thought and global contemporary issues.

A. Humanities and Islamic Thought
•    Intellectual Traditions: Islamic philosophy, theology (Kalam), mysticism (Sufism), and ethics.
•    Arts and Culture: Islamic arts, literature, aesthetics, and the history of Islamic civilization.
•    Textual Studies: Linguistics and critical textual analysis of primary Islamic sources.
•    Legal Theory: Islamic law (Sharia) and legal theory (Usul al-Fiqh).
B. Social Inquiry and Muslim Societies
•    Social Structures: Sociology and anthropology of Muslim communities, including gender, identity, and family dynamics.
•    Education and Governance: Islamic education, pedagogy, politics, social movements, and governance.
•    Legal Practice: The application of Islamic law and legal practices in contemporary societies.

Methodological Scope
JIHSI values methodological diversity and encourages authors to clearly articulate their research frameworks. We accept manuscripts employing:
•    Textual and literary analysis of primary Islamic sources.
•    Comparative and conceptual frameworks that bridge different disciplines.
•    Historical and archival research.
•    Empirical fieldwork-based studies, including interviews, ethnography, and participant observation.
